Frequently Asked Questions

Who can get a library card?
Any resident of Wisconsin, excluding Milwaukee County, is eligible for a Brodhead library card. Proof of current residence and photo ID (for those ages 16 and older) are required. Patrons ages 15 and younger must have a parent or guardian provide proof of residence, ID, and sign their application. 

I live in Illinois, can I use the library?
Illinois resident may purchase annual membership to the library for $50.00. Out-of-state patrons are welcome to check out materials but some databases may not be available outside of the library.

What do I need to do to get a library card?
A person needs to fill out an application and show an approved form of identification and proof of address.  (See Library Policies for details.)   Persons under 16 years old need a guardian to co-sign their form.

Does the library offer test proctoring?
Yes. Proctoring services can be arranged by contacting the Library Director. Appointments must be made at least one week in advance. Patrons interested in using our proctoring services should be prepared with a least three days/times and appointments are subject to availability of staff. Prior to proctoring, patrons are responsible for providing the Library Director with any necessary documentation to obtain access to testing materials. 

Is the library open Sunday?
The library is not open on Sundays

How can I renew my materials?
The easist way to renew materials is to access your library account at www.linkcat.info using your library card number and PIN. You can also contact the library at (608) 897-4070 during open hours. Materials cannot be renewed via email or social media.

Is there a Story Time?
Story time is offered throughout the year September through July on Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m. No Story Time is offered in August. 

What is LINKcat?
LINKcat is the shared online library catalog of over 40 libraries in the South Central Library System. It provides public access to reference databases. The system gives you access to over 3 million items and allows you to place holds and renew items from your home.

Does the library have wireless Internet access?
Yes. The library offers free wireless. No password is required. Note: the library does not have wireless printing capabilities.

Does the library have a meeting or study space?
Yes. Our Program Room can accommodate up to 100 people, our VFW room can comfortably seat 8, and our Small Study Room comfortably seats 4. The Program Room must be reserved with at least 24 hours notice.  Request a room here. Use of this and other library meeting rooms indicates your agreement to comply with all relevant meeting/program room policies.
